More Pyzowski's

I originally picked up the domain www.pyzowski.com back in 1998. Pyzowski is not a common surname, and didn't think there were any other Pyzowski's out there except for my dad's immediate family and possibly some long lost relatives in Poland.

Fast forward to 2001, when my brother and I booked my dad a trip to Poland to celebrate his retirement. When he called the travel agent - an agency in Chicago that specialized in trips to Poland - to confirm the dates, the agent told him "What a coincidence, you are the second Pyzowski to call this week." This led to the discovery that there were Pyzowski's in the Polish town of Nowy Targ, in southern Poland. My dad contacted them while on his trip, and our distant relatives were able to locate the baptismal certificate of my paternal grandfather in the local church.

It turns out there are Pyzowski's in the eastern part of Poland as well. Through the magic of the internet, Marta Pyzowski found my website and let me know there are 20 more Pyzowski's in her town. Below are some pictures of Marta, her sister, and other family members.

She also pointed me to a site to see where all the Pyzowski's in Poland live:

Marathon Monday

The third Monday of April is a holiday in Massachusetts, Patriots' Day, which coincides with the running of the Boston Marathon. The marathon route runs only a block away from our house. Our vantage point this year was from the house of church friends Dan, Robin, Ford, May, and Annie, who live right on the marathon route, two blocks from Mile 15.

A Few Photos from Europe

I recently returned from a two week trip to Europe, with my foot cast and the camera in my iPhone. I did manage to get a few decent photos.

These two are from the campus of the Catholic University of Leuven in the Flemish part of Belgium, taken early on a Monday morning as I was walking to a meeting being held on the campus.

This photo shows the view from the hills in Lausanne, Switzerland, close to sunset and with the snow-covered French Alps in the background.

Girls Softball Starts Today

This year Katie is on the Pirates - the old hometown team. First practice was this afternoon. It is nice to see Katie in a sport she enjoys, and to see the progress she has made with throwing/fielding/batting since last year. First game is next Saturday.

Recovering...

The good news is that my broken foot is on the mend. X-rays this past Tuesday showed that the fracture is healing. I no longer need to wear the boot, but do need to tape my toes and wear large athletic shoes.

Since I was going to be spending the next few weeks recovering anyway, I decided to schedule my wisdom teeth removal for this week as well. One was particularly difficult to extract, and I am still in a lot of pain, even with the medications. Add to that that I am jetlagged from a two week trip to Europe and also finished by hepatitis and TB vaccines this week (for a trip to Central America next month).

So I am definitely not on top of my game, and looking forward to recovery!
